The only spa in the Malvern Hills themselves
Restoring guests since the hills first drew them.
The Forest Spa is set directly into the Malvern hillside. It is cradled in nine acres of woodland with grass underfoot, while the moss-covered hills rise creating the living wall of the spa garden. With trees wrapping softly around you, you can take in a thirty-mile view across the Severn Valley to the Cotswolds.
It is a beautifully natural sanctuary, built of the things around it: wood, water, stone, and moss - crafting a deeply authentic, warm, and inviting escape. Birdsong and the sounds of the wood carry through the air; trails lead from the spa into the trees and on to nine miles of ridge, and the famous holy well is five minutes away.
Grounded, natural, and open to the woods
This is a spa built to blend seamlessly with the surrounding woodland and hills. It is designed to borrow from the setting using raw materials, earthy tones, wood, and moss-covered stone. Here you will feel the outdoors: the embrace of the hills and the calming presence of the surrounding trees.
Slow down enough and the forest does its own quiet work. The Japanese call it shinrin-yoku: forest bathing. Leave the day behind at the treeline. Breathe the woods in. This is what coming back to nature feels like: not just an idea, but a rough, real, growing place you can stand in.
WARMTH, WATER, COLD — THE RITUAL
The hot-and-cold circuit, in the open air
Soak beneath open skies in a hot tub and enjoy view that stretch for thirty miles. Sweat the week out of yourself in the sauna before the same mesmerising horizon, then take the cold plunge and feel entirely new: the hot-and-cold ritual the world now calls Nordic cycle therapy, which Malvern was prescribing a century and a half before it was fashionable. Then choose from a thoughtful menu of treatments, delivered by our own therapists, each designed to restore balance to body and mind.
WHERE THE BRITISH RETREAT BEGAN
Nature was the original cure
In the 1840s, Doctors James Wilson and James Gully built the celebrated Malvern Water Cure on the purity of the spring water rising through these hills: cold baths, wet-sheet packing, plain food and long walks in the woods and on the ridge. The cure was nature, and little more. Florence Nightingale, Charles Dickens, Alfred Lord Tennyson and Charles Darwin all came to take it, and made Malvern Britain's original wellness destination.
So 'back to nature' is not a trend we have borrowed. It is the oldest idea in this valley: and The Forest Spa carries it quietly: warmth, water, cold, the woods and the hills, with considerably better food than the Victorians allowed themselves.
The Forest Spa
Yours, Morning and Evening
Every morning and every evening, The Forest Spa belongs to residents alone — the hot tub at first light, the sauna as the wood darkens, no one else there. Day guests are welcomed Sunday to Friday between midday and 3pm, with treatments from 11am, and spa days that pair the ritual with lunch or Afternoon Tea from the kitchen. To stay, our spa packages combine the spa garden, the thermal circuit and a relaxed but accomplished dinner in The Brasserie.
