Relaxed room,
serious kitchen
At the heart of The Cottage in the Wood is The Brasserie, offering a relaxed, all-day dining experience that quickly becomes our guests' top choice and brings them back time after time.
The cooking carries all the craft and care that made our kitchen's name: precise, seasonal, built on the best of the Vale of Evesham, but with the formality set aside, it is free to roam.
What has changed is the rulebook, not the standard, and all of it is served with a thirty-mile view across the Severn Valley, framed by floor-to-ceiling windows or, when the weather is pleasing, from the terrace itself.
Add afternoon tea where the house began, a lounge bar for the slow hours, and picnic packs for the woodland walks, every moment of the day brings a perfect reason to sit down and enjoy. No itinerary, no agenda – just fine food, and the time to enjoy it.
The Brasserie
Serious food, relaxed room
The Brasserie is where our kitchen gets to play: a light-filled room that brings the woodland indoors: floor-to-ceiling windows opening to the trees and the thirty-mile view across the Severn Valley, and woodland wallpaper wrapping the walls, so the forest is with you at every table.
Our culinary expertise continues to shine: precise, seasonal technique on every plate, free to range wherever exceptional ingredients lead.
The Brasserie expands to give you more space to unwind when your dining experience flows naturally onto the terrace and into the lounge bar, while the breathtaking view remains your constant backdrop.
These hills have long moved writers and composers: it was here, on a snowy evening, that C.S. Lewis glimpsed the lamplit world that became Narnia. Something of that quiet magic settles over a long, unhurried dinner with the valley darkening below.
The terrace menu
The Terrace
Heated, covered and open daily - terrace menu served through the day.
When the weather is fine (and because it is heated and covered, that is much more often than you would think) the terrace easily becomes the best seat in the house. Here, the menu keeps things simple and delicious, served alongside your favourite cocktail or something perfectly chilled.
With thirty miles of the Severn Valley stretched out in front of you, lunch lingers into the afternoon, and a first drink sees off the light as the evening unfolds.
A ceremony we take seriously
Afternoon tea
Wednesday–Sunday · from 15:00 · Reservations the day before · Vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free available
This is where the whole house began: as tea rooms in 1919, running well into the 1950s, and, it's rumoured, Elgar at the piano in the twenties. We still serve what we think is the best tea in Malvern: fine china, a three-tiered stand, warm scones with clotted cream and jam, taken in The Brasserie or out on the terrace with the valley below.
Add a glass of Champagne and make an occasion of it. In the mood for something simpler? A cream tea — warm scones, clotted cream, local strawberry jam and a pot of your favourite. It makes a lovely gift, too; our vouchers come beautifully boxed.
