1919 Restaurant, Lounge Bar and Terrace is the place to meet, eat, drink and celebrate the good stuff in life. Sociable, friendly and relaxed we are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the day, with a delicious award-winning a la carte menu or our sensational ever-changing tasting menu celebrating the local area developed by Head Chef Rob Mason and his team. Sip a cocktail on the Terrace, indulge in a three-course evening meal paired with sippable wines or simply relax in the Lounge Bar with a coffee and a natter with a friend. There is no itinerary, no agenda – just space to enjoy the great food, good company and stunning views.
Meet the Chef - Rob Mason
Rob Mason takes the helm in our kitchen, and for good reason. Having worked his way up the ranks in some of the UK’s most innovative establishments, Rob now brings his flair and flavour pairings to 1919 Restaurant. His menu is heartfelt and instinctive, led by using top quality, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.
“It’s all about keeping it simple and letting the ingredients do the talking,” says Rob. “Tasty food full of flavour that all comes together on the plate, combining the best quality meat or fish with indulgent sauces and seasonal produce.”
Pickling and fermenting to preserve food is a big part of Rob’s cooking style, using the nature around him to enhance some truly classic local flavours. The raw garlic growing in the hotel’s front garden is diffused in oil and the flowers are pickled for use to enhance the menu throughout the year. Rob is planning to create a kitchen garden so his team can grow their own vegetables and herbs, which is an exciting part of bringing our 3AA Rosette 1919 Restaurant to the next level.
Lunch
Lunch, or as we like to call it, all-day nibbling, lasts throughout the day at The Cottage in the Wood Malvern, and it’s full of the good stuff. We like to take it easy without an agenda or itinerary – just good food available for you to enjoy after a walk or when you’ve just checked in.
Dinner
Dinner is served in 1919 Restaurant or bar and on the covered Terrace from 6pm. With three delicious menus to choose from: The tasting menu, a la carte menu or terrace menu you will have plenty to keep you interested. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and lactose free products and variations available, please ask for details at time of booking. Children’s menu also available.
Tasting Menu
Our seven-course tasting menu is a gastronomic journey through Worcestershire, using locally sourced ingredients meticulously prepared by our award-winning chefs. Including meat, fish and plant-based dishes, the tasting menu is constantly changing to make the most of the seasonal ingredients of local suppliers.
Terrace
Our heated and covered Terrace is a year-round option for outside dining and drinking, offering the chance to enjoy an alfresco meal in comfort. Sip a glass of wine or a cocktail with friends or enjoy a tasty sandwich, steak or burger – all served with spectacular views and nature all around.
Sunday Lunch
There is something very special about a long and leisurely Sunday lunch, with a perfectly cooked roast dinner with all the trimmings. At The Cottage in the Wood Malvern we like to go all out on Sundays, offering succulent roasts, perfect potatoes and gravy you’ll be talking about for weeks.
Afternoon Tea
Afternoon Tea is a quintessential part of our history. The Cottage in the Wood Malvern originally opened as Tea Rooms in 1919, and we still serve the best Afternoon Tea in Malvern – complete with stunning views across the Severn Valley.
Breakfast
Breakfast is very special at The Cottage in the Wood Malvern. All our guests agree it is full of the good stuff – a feast for the senses, served in our gorgeous dining room flooded with light, with windows showcasing the sweeping view. Wholesome, fresh and abundant, you can break the fast with tea and coffee, warm bread, fresh fruits, yoghurts and cereals, locally sourced bacon and sausages and eggs laid by local hens – made to order just the way you like them.
