Facilities at the Hotel

The Cottage in the Wood is made up of three buildings.

The Main House (or Dower House) is the heart of the operation. Consisting of the restaurant, seven bedrooms and conference facilities.

The restaurant, an elegant room, recently reburbished to give a lighter, fresher feel and below the panorama stretching to the horizon some 30 miles or so, from tall Georgian windows.

Dominic Pattin (John & Sue's son) is in command of the kitchen and specialises in modern English cuisine with ingredients from local producers wherever possible.

His father, John, complements the cuisine with a wine list rated by the AA as one of the top 30 in Britain, with around 600 wines to choose from. Winner of Johansens 'Wine List of the Year 2006'.

A cosy bar/lounge with its focal point being a roaring log fire in winter, offers a good selection of malts and a large gin collection. The choice is sure to set you up for your meal. And, afterwards, what about a Cognac, Armagnac or single malt as a nightcap?

Upstairs there are seven bedrooms, which, whilst not large, are individually designed and stocked to ensure your comfort. Some are front-facing and one boasts a four-poster bed.

Seventy leisurely paces brings you to the oldest building, Beech Cottage.

This old cottage is marked on all the old maps of the area and pre-dates the Main House by 100 to 150 years - in its time it has been a woodman's cottage and Cider Scrumpy house. It now has four peaceful cottagey bedrooms.

Beyond lies "The Pinnacles". Built in 2003 on the original site of the Coach House, which was originally the home for the carriages of the main house. The Pinnacles has nineteen bedrooms, almost all of which have front-facing views. Some rooms are suites, some have sun-trap balconies, and as if to make up for the longer stroll from the main building, with quite the most magnificent views of all! The hotel is of course all non smoking.

All bedrooms are en-suite with bath or bath with shower over, remote control colour tele/dvd/videos, free video library, direct-dial telephone and alarm, central heating and an additional fan heater for those "in between" days, kettle with choice of teas, coffee, hot chocolate and home-made biscuits, hair dryer, radio, shampoo and bubble bath. All rooms "with a view" have binoculars.

Pets are warmly welcomed in the hotel. We allow a maximum of 2 well behaved animals for guests staying downstairs in The Pinnacles (double check with us as a precaution).
